Another character of this story is Mary Beth Grabowsky. She gets real prissy when Tamara does things that nobody agrees with. As you read the end of this book, you'll be space bound just like Men in Black.

Tamaira Simpson is a girl who believes in truth and fairness. What could be wrong with that? The kids on Ramble Street could tell you. Tamaira's best friend moves away unexpectedly and is replaced by a new foster child on the block. She tries to compensate for her hurt feelings and sense of loneliness by single-handedly taking down Muscle Man McGinty, right or wrong.Set on Long Island in 1969, the author incorporates the Vietnam War and the historic Apollo 11 moon landing into her moving novel filled with characters that today's children will easily relate to.This book will delight both voracious and reluctant readers with its humor and pathos. Great book I can picture every character perfectly and although this story is funny it also has a heart warming story of a friendship a sad story of a boy and his parents death and a story about a brave young man who dies in war this book may be sad but turns out to be a long story of how two people who are very different that come to have a strong bond

A delightful story of a young girl growing up in the age of men on the moon. The author understands young people. A gifted writer.

The books were in great shape. The hard back was an exceptional value, considering how good it's shape was. I am very happy with the purchase.

I happened to listen to the audio version while my daughter read the book. Nan Marino is a terrific writer and is a great storyteller. She paints a vivid picture of 1960s Long Island, a time where innocence is lost due to the Vietnam War. Marino allows us inside the mind of the main character, a bully, so effectively.While trying to understand why no one on her block sees "Muscle Man McGinty" for what he is, a lying snake, she battles her own emotional shortcomings.I recommend this book to families to read together and understand why bullies may act the way they do. While I do not sympathize totally with any bully, there are reasons, as so accurately pointed out by this brilliant book, for their hehavior.It's the first book I've read from a perspective of a young, female bully. And Ms. Marino hit a home run.

My 9 year-old son said "It's just okay. I like the "Trouble with Chickens" better." He is a very good reader and read all of the books on the Sunshine State reader list.This was his least favorite, even over the books with a girl as protaganist.

I looooove this book. The ideas aren't entirely new. It's more like the author has taken the most important aspects of wisdom and compiled it into effective examples and phrases that really hit home. I've underlined every page. It's really helped me be less reactive, more intentional, more disciplined, and even keel. I wish the book was longer and that there were more authors writing about this philosophy. The premise is simple: focus your energy on the the things that are in your power to change, and don't waste your energy on emotional turbulence or hyper-analyzing everything. The reason this philosophy has the power to inspire so many more books is that it can apply to every aspect of our life: how and whether we muster the courage to make a change, how we drive our cars, how we schedule our days, what we choose to eat, how and whether we resolve conflicts.One of the most helpful applications of this book is changing the ways I interact with my family of origin. My parents and siblings are anxious, doubtful, and pessimistic. For the most part, I am not. However, for years I've struggled with my own reactions to being around them. Every family holiday or vacation caused me to regress to adolescence, and after each event, it took weeks for me to recover. Through this book, I realized that my reacting to their reactivity was totally ironic. I don't have to react to them. Once I became aware of this, it became a choice. Now, I can choose to see these family events as opportunities to feel grateful for my own equanimity. And when I do lose balance, I can be easy on myself, because I remember that new habits take a while to develop. This is overall a really good book and it was a great introduction to Stoic philosophy for me. However, the tone is very focused on promoting modern busy culture instead of stepping back from it. More like a book to help you use Stoic techniques to do better at what you are already doing instead of figuring out what is really important. It seems very focused on doing big things in life and most of the examples given are the same old tired people we've heard about a million times, mostly rich people, military generals and CEO's. I guess for pop culture, those examples are fitting. I would have preferred something more introspective in tone, but that's just me.

Outstanding. I used to have a practice. Each year, at the end of the year, I would take about 20 minutes to write a list of all of the "bad" things that happened that year. Then, I would take the list outside, burn it and bury the ashes. Kind of a release from the burdens or pain that came from the tough times. They were over. I could move on. Now, I make the same list, but instead of burning it, I go back over the list and beside each "bad" thing, I write a positive development that came from it. I think about what I learned or how I worked through the challenge. This empowers me to actually appreciate and show gratitude for the tough things that happen. Positive change of mindset from reading this book. Thanks.

While I generally prefer the Kindle as a reader, at least the illustrations were in color on the iPad. On the Kindle, they were grey-scale. Their quality was not as bad as illustrations from other books that I've seen on the Kindle, so they exceeded my expectations. But the iPad was still a better reading experience.My only criticism of the book has to do with the residual disappointment I have that this was not an "enhanced" eBook. Embedded video and sound would have been a lot of fun. That wouldn't have worked on the Kindle reader, but would have been fun on an iPad or Kindle Fire. More pics would have been nice too.I think this whole interactive series is doing is great. It leverages the interactivity that the format makes possible, makes the reader literally own the outcome of the story, and it's engaging. I hope to see a lot more of this type of innovation in the future!

This is a good book. I bought it for a 9 year old who is very interested in Titanic and he loves it. It's been passed around to all the kids so they can all see how they'd do. It's also made him/them more curious to learn about Titanic.

Choose your own way the story progresses in so much fun --- my grandsons like this book!

Maybe not a perfect fit for younger students (some passengers "don't make it") They did enjoy being able to be interactive during the story.

I am an undergrad student at the University of Baltimore. This book was recommended by my Entreprenureship 300 professor.I don't consider myself as a serious book reader but I really enjoyed reading this book. I have always been interested in Amazon as a company and I've been a loyal customer for several years. It has been motivating watching the company grow into a very successful business. This book tells the fascinating story of Amazon and how it got where it is now. The book is very helpful to those that may interested in starting their own business.Brad Jones explains how Jeff Bezos used his tenacity, dedication, and harshness to build an empire. Even when things seemed to be going horribly wrong, Bezos managed to stay positive and still come up with innovative ideas that would propel Amazon into strong and even sometimes brutal empire. Brad Jones explains how similar Bezos' demeanor is to other extremely successful entreprenuers such as Bill Gates and others.I learned a lot about what it takes to build and run a successful company. Jones gives many details about the background operations of the company throughout the years. Even when the company appeared to be successful to outsiders, the company was actually struggling financially. However, Bezos' new ideas that most company executives wouldn't take think to try, were the main reasons that Amazon survived the Dot Com Crash and recession. To this day, Bezos is still developing new ideas and using them to sore beyond all expectations and continue following his dream of making Amazon "The Everything Store".

As somebody who has been familiar with Amazon since they began (tech in Seattle is a small world), Amazon has always been in my peripherals so I was already somewhat familiar with Amazon's stigma, especially in this city, as well as what a lot of people have had to say about Amazon. This book only really scratches the surface of the mindset of Jeff and his executive team throughout the course of Amazon's history, but if you can take an objective viewpoint and read between the lines of the book you can get a pretty revealing idea of how Amazon operates and their philosophy behind a lot of what they do. There is a lot to get out of this book that other things are severely lacking (looking at you, New York Times).Like other people have mentioned, this book paints Jeff in a little bit of a strange light, only focusing on his ruthless approach to business and e-commerce and spending little time talking about the fact that he is indeed human and has a wide range of emotions and isn't actually Darth Vader incarnate.All in all, I enjoyed the book thoroughly. The pacing is quick, but not thin, and the author spends just enough time explaining situations to provide context without risking crafting a dense editorial. The language is smart, but not aloof, and the progression of the writing makes it easy to continue reading for long stretches of time unlike a lot of other books like this one.

I wasn't really planning on reviewing this book, because I was mentioned in it several times and it didn't seem appropriate. But several other people who were also mentioned in the book have already posted reviews, and in fact, MacKenzie Bezos, in her well known 1-star review, suggested that other "characters" might "step out of books" and "speak for themselves".I was at Amazon for the first 5 years of its existence, so I also have firsthand experience of those times at the company, and I have been a fairly close observer since I left. By and large I found Mr. Stone's treatment of that which I know firsthand to be accurate -- at least as accurate as it is possible to be at this great a remove, and with no contemporaneous documentation of the early chaotic days or access to certain of the principals. Relying on people's memories of nearly twenty-year-old events is of necessity somewhat perilous. Of course there are a few minor errors here and there, but I don't have firsthand knowledge of important mistakes much less anything that appears to be intentionally misleading. But there are a few minor glitches. In my case, I can testify that I did not, in fact, have a bushy beard at age 17 when I worked at the Whole Earth Truck Store & Catalog in Menlo Park. It was a publisher and seller of books and other things, not a lending library. It was in a storefront and was no longer a mobile service operating out of a truck by the time I worked there (p. 32). But I do not think this is a reason to disregard the entire book; it's just some not terribly relevant detail the author got a bit wrong in a way that doesn't change the story materially. MacKenzie listed one error, which didn't seem especially awful or material to me, and then referred only vaguely to "way too many inaccuracies". Without a more explicit list of mistakes it is hard to know what to make of that. Breaking news: a new 372 page book has some errors!Since Mr. Stone did not have access to Jeff Bezos for this book, but had to rely on previous interviews and the accounts of others, it would be surprising if there weren't a few mistakes regarding his thought processes. As part of my agreement to be interviewed for this book, I was allowed to read a draft of the chapter which covered the time I was there, and I offered a number of corrections, some of which Mr. Stone was able to verify and incorporate. To the extent I am quoted, my quotes are, while not complete, fair and in context. I don't love or agree with everything that Mr. Stone wrote about me -- especially his broader conclusions regarding the circumstances of my departure from the company -- but I do think it was fair and reasonable. I am aware of at least one other interviewee who was also given a chance to check over the chapter in which his story was discussed. I obviously can't know this, but I suspect that if Mr. Stone had been granted access to Jeff Bezos, that he would have extended a similar courtesy. I have a pretty high degree of confidence that Mr. Stone made a significant effort, and did what was in his power, to make the book accurate.The irony is, of course, that by reviewing the book as MacKenzie Bezos did, she has brought an immense amount more attention to it -- there are dozens of articles referring to her review via Google News this morning -- and its sales rank has shot up considerably. The book is not a fawning hagiography, but it is also hardly a completely negative account either. It describes not only Amazon's ultra-hardball business practices, but the better aspects of their services and products as well. To the extent of my knowledge it is a pretty realistic account, though necessarily incomplete. Of course Mr. Stone has his own point of view, and of course he does what nearly all biographers do, which is to impute thoughts and emotions to the people he writes about. It would be mighty dull reading without that, but I think readers are generally smart enough to understand that when they read biographies, especially unauthorized biographies, the author has to recreate some kind of persona to make the subject appear life-like. That doesn't make it fiction. This was written as a business book for a popular audience anyway, not as an academic treatise, so expecting every "Bezos thought..." to be footnoted, or couched in hypothetical language, is not realistic.Especially in comparison to the sad collection of awful books that have been written on this subject, this one is much more detailed, more interesting, and a lot more deeply reported. Sure, there is plenty more that could be written about, and maybe someday somebody will. If and when that happens, I can only hope it is also "unauthorized" and not sanitized by a corporate PR department, and that some real investigative journalism is done, like Mr. Stone did here.

There are different methods of trading/investing in the stock market. There's value investing (like Warren Buffet), there's day trading, swing trading, and then there's growth investing. This book is about growth investing. That is, investing in companies that show exceptional earnings and sales growth (which are the things that affect a stock's price during a bull market cycle). It's not better or worse than the others. But thanks to Bill O'Neill and his Investor's Business Daily service, it is easier to learn.This is because IBD (the newspaper/service accompanying this strategy) does half the work for you. The book will tell you to look for companies with a certain amount of earnings growth by quarter, for example, and that sounds like a lot of work--and normally, it would be. But if you pay the $10 per month, or whatever it is, for the paper, all of that stuff is done for you. The data is available for any stock in the market, and you're given a list of the top 50 stocks that meet the criteria listed in the book.But as I said, that's only half the work. Knowing which stocks to buy is easy (thanks to this strategy), but knowing when to buy them and when to sell them is the hard part. The book goes into detail on that. It involves looking for certain patterns in the price charts (also available through their service), and then buying if the price goes above a certain level. Then there are also rules on when to sell.It's a rules-based system, which is good because it gives you a set of criteria by which to buy and sell stocks, but there is room for flexibility (depending on your abilities as a technical analyst and/or your knowledge of a particular company) which is going to make or break you as a stock trader.I should finish this review, though, by saying that most traders lose money in stocks. Unless you're so obsessed with stocks that you're willing to put in thousands of hours (just like any highly competitive skill) before you are successful, I'd recommend just buying a mutual fund instead. It's a lot less hassle, and unless you become an elite trader, your returns will likely be comparable over a long enough period of time.If there is any negative that I have to say about this book, it's that it says nothing about what I believe is the most difficult part about trading. The psychological aspect. I would reference Mark Douglas for that.

This is the first review I have ever written on Amazon; this book is that incredible. The book lays out exactly what most successful stocks have done to be successful and when to buy that stock before it shoots up. The basic premise of the book is to buy companies that have demonstrated certain chart patterns (the patterns explained in the book) and have solid fundamentals.So far, in only 3 months of investing with his strategy, I have made 15% returns on my investments. Before I read this, I had to wait at least a year or two before making that kind of money. However, he does solicit his website throughout the book. At first, I was skeptical of someone trying to sell financial advice (everyone seems to solicit you for market advice nowadays), but I decided to give his website a try. Ends up, they give you a month trial for free, and it costs $30 per month after the trial. With the amount of money I have made from this book, the $30 a month is a drop in the bucket of my profits.To provide concrete examples, his website told me to look for Winnebago (WGO) in August-September 2017, YY Inc.'s (YY) incredible 25% shoot up after their amazing quarter in November 2017, and Square's (SQ) ungodly skyrocket in November 2017. Those are but some of the success stories I would never have found had I simply read he book and tried to do the analysis that the website provides for you. I strongly recommend reading the book and paying the monthly membership for the website. I have not regretted it at all.

This book changed my life financially. I took the time to study this as if it were college coursework - taking notes, making summaries, and referencing it back over and over again until I was confident that I understood the concepts. I went from having NO understanding about the stock market to being able to make intelligent decisions around the market. I've made a good chunk of $ back on my investments and William O'Neil offers a safe yet effective way to invest while using your financial agility as a small capital investor to your advantage.

I used this for the real estate exam, and found it to be very useful. It also contains sections devoted to mathematical analysis and terminology. I passed the exam on the first try.

I could have accessed this from the online course but I prefer hard copy for extensive reading. Also, this version has different quizzes at the end of each chapter than those in the course so I feel like I'm learning more.

Purchased to go along with online class. They followed along together really well. Easy to read and understand, concepts relayed really well. I liked the summary reviews of key concepts at the end of each chapter - that and the review questions at the end were great for cramming before the test.

This book is terrible! It is not specific to the principles book or practice book, it’s an overview of both. The title is very misleading. On top of that it is generalizes real estate. I live in California and the laws are different. After doing research I found that most other books are state specific, at least when it comes to California and Florida. Very disappointing! I wanted a book to read and take notes along side the online courses. Waist of money! Save yourself time & money don’t buy this book! Trying to find out if I can return it now!

It's the same as my online class material, only in book form. Good for hi-lighting, underlining and taking notes.

Purchased this book for my real estate studies as recommended. It will be one I will keep handy as reference when needed. Good informative material.

Easy to read and highlight without bleed through. Good quizzes and good practice test. Wish there were a few more definitions and the back and the index was a little more through. It would be really good to have a math section separate along with the math questions in the back, but I have taken this book everywhere and used often and it's still in excellent condition.

Necessary to pass a real estate exam, especially if you are taking an online course, and was delivered in a timely manner. Very helpful
