This book does an amazing job at talking about introductory chemical oceanography concepts. I would highly recommend this book to anyone in search of knowledge about the chemistry of the sea.

We covered a good deal of this text in an undergraduate chemical oceanography class at UC-Davis. It provided a good background into the science and assumes no extensive background in chemistry. There is a strong emphasis on carbonates and for those who are not deficient in manipulating equations, the formulas should be relatively easy to follow. Each chapter comes complete with references and the appendices are very thorough. In my opinion, the index could have been more complete and included more search possibilities, I did have trouble finding very specific items. I come from a biological background and was able to follow every chapter in the Pilson's book. Pilson writes very clearly, and I intend to keep this book as a general reference.

This has been a great book to look at as my fiancé and I plan our wedding. It has brought questions to our attention that we didn’t even think to ask. A friend recommended to book to me, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone planning a destination wedding.

Planning a wedding it exciting, this book is just.. meh. It gives a 'general' overview of planning a destination wedding. For anything substantial towards my wedding planning, I have found sites like Pinterest to be far more helpful. If you can find it 'used' it might be worth the easy read but I would not recommend paying full price.

If you're planning a destination wedding, don't think twice. There is so much to do when it comes to a wedding, and this book really puts you in the correct path for beginners. Focuses on what you should do and ask and they even have a timeline that you could follow and plan. Although please note this book is catered towards The American/European continents. But in my opinion if you're planning to have your wedding somewhere in Asia or other continents,its still a good buy.

This book was extremely helpful as we were planning our caribbean destination wedding. It was concise yet thorough and I am happy to say our wedding was a success - very much due in part to this book. It does help to have a hotel wedding planner which did most of the work for us - but this book allowed us to ask educated questions and be prepared for any unknown variables. I highly recommend this book - and have passed this on to many friends who also had destination weddings.

Without it, I wouldn't have even known where to start. This book includes time lines; to-do lists; tips on picking the perfect location, what to do if you do/don't plan on visiting your location beforehand, hiring vendors, and planning weekend activities; plus a destination directory, destination wedding worksheets, and LOTS more. I would definitely recommend it to any of my friends.

This is for pie makers that want to try new flavors/ingredients/ideas in pie makingUnfortunately, I am an old dog pie maker that is uncomfortable with air brushing, weird new flavors, etc.

I pre-ordered this book to give to my BIL for his birthday, thinking that he would enjoy some of the very cool pie projects presented in this book. Lots of the pie recipes are right up his alley as he loves so many of the flavor elements in these pies-- maple syrup, peanut butter, chocolate, cocktails. For sure you could go crazy and recreate some of these masterpiece pies, but there are also some simpler creations, and SO many practical tips and tricks to give you new ways to up your pie game! The photographs are out of this world, the writing is crisp and clear (and exciting!) Can't wait to see what my BIL does with the book, and might just need another copy for myself!

i love the flavor combinations and fresh ideas in "the new pie" - thumbing through always gets me ready to create something delicious. their pie crust really will change your life! (but i suggest starting with the fizzy root beer "float".)also, the thought down to every detail of the book design are inspired... recipes w both weight and volume measurements! a fully sourced equipment list with everything but a bar code! but i must say, having difficulty levels on the recipes is the best part bc i know what i'm getting myself into before i start lol.

I have never baked a pie. Never. But this book with it's alluring pies like the "1651 Richmond" (Golden Girls inspired), the "Pittsburgh Proud" (add fries) and so, so many others, has made me determined to bake a pie. The book is complete with ratings for Ingredients (ease of finding), Equipment (Do I have this in my kitchen?), and Construction (ease of assembly). This book truly lives up to its name! I'm in love!

This is a very informative book on pie making & great baking tips. I've ordered a few of the baking aids they use to take pie making to another level. So many varieties of pies made by these 2 scientists & award winning bakers.

This book from cover to cover is such a beautiful book. The photos are stunning, the recipes, techniques and little asides are perfection! A must have for every Baker, its replacing my Pie and Pastry Bible!

So excited about this book, it is beautiful and so well done, great photography and amazing recipes. Can’t wait to try them all!!

I have owned 100+ cookbooks in my life. None are like this. It combines amazing recipes, stunning photographs, an engaging personal story, and the scientific approach to the chemistry of baking.
