A more accurate title would have been: Reasons the Jesus of the Gospels Never Existed.David Fitzgerald shows quite compellingly the events of the gospels couldn't have happened as written. First, many reliable historians wrote about events in Judea during the early 1st century, including some with a special interest in religious movements. They documented the existence of other faith healers and so-called Jewish messiahs, but none makes any mention of Jesus, who was supposedly famous and had throngs of people listening to his teachings and witnessing his miracles.Second, the gospels as written have historical problems. The trial of Jesus could not have taken place as described, for it contradicts known Jewish legal practice. The real historical Pilate was very different from the indecisive figure of the Gospels. Mark alone made many mistakes about Judean geography and custom, which Matthew corrected in his gospel.Fitzgerald also documents the surprising lack of biographical details about Jesus in the epistles of Paul, the earliest written sections of the New Testament. It's as if Paul were writing about a purely spiritual figure, not an historical one. Fitzgerald also notes the allegorical style of the Gospel of Mark, the earliest account of Jesus on which all the others are based. He shows the gospel writers weren't composing biographies or writing down eyewitness testimony. They each wrote for different audiences with different portrayals of Jesus.The author presents enough material to make listeners at least consider the possibility that Jesus the man never existed. However, I don't think he constructs an open-and-shut case, as the title promises. The book actually works best as a primer on New Testament scholarship. It would serve as eye-opening reading for any Christian who still believes the gospels were written by eyewitnesses, or that historical research confirms them.

"Nailed" is the result of a fifteen plus year study by self proclaimed "Amateur" David Fitzgerald who painstakingly lays out the case for a Mythic Christ. Well annotated, well thought out, easy to read and damning to the concept of a "real historic" Christ. Unfortunately, as with most books of it's type, Fitzgerald will be "preaching to the choir" as those who SHOULD read this probably won't. But for those with an interest in religion, Christianity, religious history or Theology this is a definite must read.Fitzgerald has also done a much longer and expanded study of the Christ myth in "Mything In Action", a three part series that I've just started and cannot recommend highly enough for anyone who has read "Nailed". "Mything" expands on the information presented in "Nailed", once again managing to be informative, interesting and readable. Fitzgerald knows his stuff and knows how to present it.

Fitzgerald is scorned as a " myther" by many atheists and Christian fundamentalists alike as his simplistic accessible book "Nailed" does something scholars in the broader continuum of academia despise. He asks a simple question then sets about making the case to answer that question. On face value his case seems pretty strong.I've read some scholarly rebuttals that are frankly too dense and arcane to convince me that Fitzgerald's argument is without merit - but I'm just your average Joe so what do I know? I came away convinced that the pablum I've been served all of my life by the Christian faith is insulting, however.The earth is round - and most people today would readily concur - yet a few centuries ago this seemingly obvious fact would have been scorned by most everyone who could see it was flat - period. Once a critical mass of the population believes something to be true, it is for all practical purposes true.As for the matter of whether or not a historical Jesus existed, there is clearly a critical mass who believe, without a shred of a doubt, that he did. So without any hard evidence to refute the belief, it is a yeoman's task to challenge conventional wisdom. Fitzgerald takes up that cross.To think of the millennia of deaths, injustices and strife resulting from what may well be an elaborate hoax boggles the mind, and is in fact infuriating to me whether or not a Jesus who was known as the Messiah walked the earth 2000 years ago.I don't think this book will answer the question it poses to the satisfaction of most people who read it, but I do think it does a great job of providing a basis for further contemplation, discussion and research regardless of one's present point of view on the subject.I deducted a star, as I think the author underestimates the readers' willingness to go deeper and follow along without the author adopting such a laid back, casual writing style. He also could have sited more authoritative sources and provided some balance, but I believe he is attempting to offer a polemic for the general audience used to having their Christian theology served with a nice warm glass of milk, as opposed to the serious apologist who find fault simplicity of the text.He's fighting the pablum with pablum!I'm looking forward to reading the sequel he mentions in several online blog posts.

I have loved every book in this series. This is Alex and Libby' s story. Libby is helping her friend as a nanny. While visiting the palace in Durham Alex helps Libby with a security issue. If you have read the other books in this series you know that Alex had popularity problems since his former girlfriend has ruined his reputation. The palace decides that Alex should date Libby after a picture of the two appears in the paper. I was drawn into this story from the beginning. It's full of fun, angst, snark, misunderstanding, acceptance and love. And this book does have a happy ending, unlike others where you're left to wonder what happens.

This one was another great. Libby moved to Durham to help her friend Connie take care of her little girl. Things were financially rough back in Oregon for her parents so she the money would help. She and baby Kenzie were taking a tour of the palace and she went and out a lucky penny between the two royal thrones and that is how she meets Prince Alex, after that her luck does change.

They came from two insanely different backgrounds but some obesity families that loved them' After finding each other it seems all of life conspired to pull them apart. The one thing the enemy of love did not count on was that love is a multi hues entity. That love makes a difference. This is an Ahh! story. Enjoy.
