This is an excellent resource for anyone traveling in the Northern Virginia area. The maps are well laid out and very clear.

the picture is deceiving, it says 42 edition but ours was 34. it worked for its purpose but it is false advertizing.

I guess I wasn't looking carefully enough, but I didn't expect this to be *the 1999 edition*. Thoroughly out of date, considering the way NVA is developing. And it's also kind of worn. But since I intend to keep it in my car for emergencies, it will probably serve the purpose.

These maps are very hard to read compared to the 2001 edition. I had to get a magnifying glass to find my own street. I live in Arlington and it is very built up. In places less urban, like most of Fairfax or Loudoun Counties, places with lots of empty space, it should be ok..It will not do for a car map unless you take a strong light and a very good magnifying glass with you also. I wish I had gone to a store to buy it. Then I would have seen that it was not good for my intended use.If you wear reading glasses look at it in a store before you buy it. You can still buy it from Amazon, of course..

When I moved to Northern Virginia, from India, I found myself having to learn very fast how to motor around the area. In this, ADC's Street Map of Northern Virginia was a life-saver for me. I have lost count of how many hours I have spent poring over its pages to find out how to get to stores, offices and touristy places. The individual page maps are well laid out with colors used thoughtfully to contrast, without being garish. The text, by and large, is easy on the eyes, barring the smaller street names which require some squinting. Exhaustive index pages make finding streets and locations a piece of cake. Best of all, the maps keep in mind the differing perspectives of drivers as well as pedestrians. In fact, now that I am well familiar with the area, I often find myself flipping the pages just for the sheer peasure of it or to find something new. I must mention in particular the layout maps of the local airports, which are a great help for the unwary. For anyone who has just moved into this area or who wants to explore and discover the area better, there is no better book. Highly recommended!

This really should be titled "Fairfax County" because that's about all it covers. Or "DC suburbs" perhaps. I found the "Regional Northern Virginia" atlas to be a lot bigger help in househunting in Northern VA as it covers 4 whole counties. Just read the descriptions carefully to make sure which "Northern Virginia" atlas you need. ADC maps are fantastic though.

This final book of the "Dragonlance Chronicles" trilogy will not disappoint. In order to pull this off the entire plot has to have been planned out well in advance (indeed, well before starting to write) to avoid a meandering making-it-up-as-I-go-along feel that leaves the reader with the suspicion of being jerked around. Thankfully, authors Weis and Hickman seemed to have avoided this. If forced to guess I would posit that the first book in the trilogy was meant to stand alone in case sales did not warrant sequels. Once it was clear that they had a hit on their hands the next two books were plotted together.The book has many strong points. A few of my favorites:1.) The moral ambiguity of Raistlin. Yes, he generally aids the good guys but it is clear he has an agenda of his own. Very well handled and kept me guessing throughout the book.2.) Kitiara. Utterly ruthless. But does she still have a weakness for Tanis as Lord Soth suspects or is she just toying with Tanis as she claims? Does she even know?3.) The "hangers on" getting a chance to shine. Caramon, Tasslehoff, Flint, Tika, and Laurana all have integral parts to play and are not there for muscle, comic relief, or as a damsel in distress.4.) Well thought out and entertaining sequences featuring Astinus and the library in Palanthas, the sea elves and the city of Istar, and Fizban.On the debit side it seemed that Goldmoon, Riverwind, and Gilthanas fade from the story in this book.The Kindle version is flawless except for the sparse chapter marks on the progress bar. The map is also near useless.Highly recommended. Don't be put off by the role playing game origins of this trilogy.

I had a hard time reading this book. There were parts that were a bit slow, and other parts that were so suspenseful I had to walk away. That's not necessarily a bad thing, though-- I was so invested in the characters that I was getting upset during the last few chapters, when I thought there was no way they could get through their situation. I thought there was no way there could be a happy ending. But in the end, it was very satisfying. I enjoyed the twists and the way the story resolved itself. I look forward to reading the rest of the books about these characters.

This was the 3rd book in the Dragonlance Chronicles. It was a reread and every bit as wonderful as I remember it. I laughed, I cried, but I was never bored. This is an awesome trilogy and I recommend it to anyone that likes dragons, magic, and adventure.

I read these books for the first time in 1988 since then I have probably read them $50 mom I read these books for the first time in 1988 since then I have probably read them 50 Times they were actually the first books I read in this type of genre and then my kids read them when they were teenagers and they have probably read them 10 homes or more so there Ashley the type of books that are keepers the characters are so well-written that you feel almost as you actually know them these books still make me laugh cry and every other motion in between

I read this series ages ago. I came across a photo that reminded me of Fizban and decided to revisit my friends from Krynn. I couldn't find my hard cover collection and was given a gift card for Christmas.If you like The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, Eragon, or even Harry Potter you'll find something in this series that appeals to you.

For those of you, like I did, that thought volume 4 is the continuation of the series... it really isn't in many ways. First of all the characters are different and you would need to read "Second Generation" to even get an idea of them. Aside from that, it was written much later and others have complained about a drop in story quality. Well enough of Volume 4, this is Volume 3 and it is fantastic. I hate to see a series end, and the entire time I was reading I was wondering how they would wrap up all the action in just one book, but it was done nicely and didn't feel rushed. Again, the realism of the series shines in this book, as the emotions of the characters come to a final climax. If there is any complaint about this series, its that the adventure had to end, but I honestly don't think it could have ended in any better way.

Better than the first time I read them, the Dragonlance Chronicles first trilogy is a story that gets into your heart.I have come to know these people, care deeply about them, and they have become part of who I am.They are family, now, and are always welcome to share their adventures with me, over a mulled wine and some spiced potatoes, of course!From Raist to Tas, and all the shades of dark and light between, I will always have room for them.

Characters are well developed and grow throughout the story. Lots of plot twists. High interest. Good versus evil. Good does not always win. Things are not always what they seem. Interesting fantasy for young reader but carries deeper philosophical meaning to more mature reader

Sarah Bakewell’s biography of Montaigne won the National Book Critics Circle Award for biography in 2010. It is a fine book, one that will engage the attention of all readers interested in the subject. That subject, of course, is very wide-ranging. Inspired by the philosophers of antiquity, Montaigne is one of the principal French writers of the Renaissance. To a degree he created the ‘essay’ form and his work has been pivotal for later thinkers. John Florio’s English translation was taught—in my day—as a work of literature itself and it helped to popularize a writer ‘adopted’ by the English as one of their own, at least in interests, spirit and unique personality. Montaigne was claimed by the romantics; he influenced Nietzsche, heartened the postmodernists and remains a writer of global importance and influence.SB’s biography answers the question, ‘how to live?’ in twenty chapters, each of them keyed to a theme in Montaigne’s work. Hence, chapter 9: “Q. How to live? A. Be convivial: live with others.” The themes, however, do not trump the biography. This is not an endless examination of thematic content with an occasional look at the events in Montaigne’s life. It is a systematic biography held together by thin thematic divisions.It is also a very learned biography, expanding at length, e.g., on the civil wars of the period, the driving ideologies, weaponry and specific details, both personal and political. It studies, e.g., the manner in which the texts of the Essays have come down to us, (what we would call) the copy texts, the emendations, the condensations, and so on. There is comparatively little on the content of the Essays themselves, ‘comparatively’ being the operative word. We learn a great deal about Montaigne’s classical influences, the nature of his pyrhonnism, the dimensions of his political associations, his personal relationships, his estate, its winemaking, and so on, but the only essay that is discussed at some length is (as one would expect) the longest of the essays, the Apology for Raymond Sebond.It is sometimes said that the first requirement for a great biography is the author’s love for her subject (balanced, always, by a willingness to speak the truth, wherever its elements might fall). SB clearly admires Montaigne and wishes that today’s thinkers, writers and politicians (Montaigne served in all three capacities) would read him, be inspired by him and take lessons from him.The writing is crisp and clear, direct and candid. While it is undergirded by a great deal of scholarship that scholarship does not drag the book down and bore the reader with tedious details. It contains a bibliography, index and series of endnotes, sufficient to guide the reader to other texts and explore/verify issues that have come under question.The book is very much like its subject—a pleasant, human and humane read that takes on difficult subjects with a light touch and details experiences that will find echoes in the reader’s own heart.Highly recommended.

In this book she gives us a moving biography of Montaigne, a history of the genesis and contents of his marvelous essays, an introduction to the history of editing his great masterpiece, and a lively and fascinating narrative of informed and popular responses to his book in successive eras. Montaigne very much feels like real presence in this book, one with a distinctive personality that is vividly represented by the author. One feels that Bakewell, along with hundreds or thousands of earlier readers have developed a personal relationship with the great writer, and Bakewell helps explain why this in the case even though an overwhelming share of readers of his essays of course have had no contact with him, except through his essays. Bakewell also does a wonderful and interesting job of explaining the very different critical reception Montaigne's essays received among his contemporaries and in succeeding generations of readers, both in France and elsewhere.The ingenuity of the biography helps explain why critical reception of Bakewell's own book was so positive. But the plain fact is that Bakewell is also a stylish writer, capable of holding our fascinated (and occasionally amused) attention, even when she is discussing the minutiae of successive editions or of obscure editorial quarrels. The book was warmly recommended to me by a friend who said flatly it was the best book he'd read in a year or, indeed, in any recent year. You'll probably find this kind of enthusiasm in many of the Amazon reviews. If you're interested in philosophy or in a charismatic writer and thinker in a long bygone, tumultuous era, and if you care about artful construction and stylish writing, this might be the book for you.
