This is a fantastic bilingual book - exactly what I wanted to help teach my half-Japanese son a bit about his language and culture. The illustrations really are beautiful, and perfectly capture many aspects of Japanese life. I don't know how historically accurate the story is, but it's nice enough and has a few moral messages for young readers. I would recommend any of the other books by this author as well!

For someone in the early stages of learning Japanese early grade bilingual book are a god send. Short paragraphs with easy kanji make for less stress.

Norihei, a farmer boy in Japan, befriends a kappa. When the two grow older, their friendship saves a life and is memorialized in a common sushi that represents both friends, kappa and Nori.This traditional Japanese folktale/fairytale picture book features text in English and Japanese. Colorful illustrations depict the change in architecture and culture as Japan became more modernized in the early 1900s. This kappa is probably the nicest one you'll ever meet. Usually they are the bad guys or scarier in Japanese folklore, but not this one. He's a great friend, and he helps keep the water clean (there's teensy bit of an environmental challenge to keep water clean in the story too). As a whole, this is a sweet introduction to Japanese folklore with some rich cultural information in the back of the book.

A beautiful and moving book about friendship, caring, and taking care of our earth. This book moved me (and my children) tremendously, and I think it is a wonderful book to share with kids. A great book to discuss empathy and compassion. I also love Sunny Seiki's other book, "The Daruma Doll." Wonderful books. Thank you for these - they also offer children a unique insight into the changes in Japan over time. I can't recommend this book highly enough!

Sunny never disappoints from his beautiful illustrations to detailed stories. He brings the old and new together in these tales of old Japan. He has a way with words and making them come to life for children. I enjoy all his books! Highly recommend him as an author.

This is a very well-written book, easy to read and understand. The author is a Harvard-trained urologist and a specialist in Low-T and testosterone replacement therapy. As a user of this therapy myself, it was very interesting to validate what my experiences have been, and to understand how completely misunderstood and misrepresented this important therapy still is in today's medical community. The chapter about testosterone therapy and prostate cancer is fascinating and completely blows up the long-held belief that testosterone replacement therapy (or more correctly normal or high-T) can cause accelerated growth of dormant or active cancer cells in the prostate.It also deals extensively with the proper way to diagnose Low-T symptoms and the various treatment types.

Essential reading for anyone considering testosterone replacement therapy. The question remains: Is the author's conclusions valid? His research certainly is. As a prostate cancer survivor with 3 years of cancer-free testosterone replacement experience to date, I am grateful for the author's objective analysis of the research data and the clarity of his exposition. My quality of life has improved significantly as a result of this book.

There are surprisingly few up-to-date books on the subject of testosterone. This book is definitely worth reading as it corrects a number of testosterone myths and references the latest research. Morgentaler identifies what testosterone levels are considered low from a specialists point of view... which is useful if your doctor is convinced your levels are normal. He identifies which of the testosterone tests are most useful... and which of the measurements are of greatest interest (bioavailable testosterone).This book could have included a bit more information about what influences testosterone production... as Morgentaler doesn't address the potential dietary or physiological causes of low testosterone. A flow chart of the steps in Testosterone production would have been useful. A bit more on the drugs used to stimulate testosterone production (their structure and method of action) would also have been enlightening. Alternatively a bit on common natural approaches to boosting testosterone... or at least listing the substances commonly cited and proving/disproving their effectiveness.By the time you get to the end of the book you feel a little like you've got the same message over and over... so there's room for enhancing the delivery.Nice effort... but overall it feels like there should have been a little bit more in this book. So here's hoping for an enhanced second edition.:-)

Although this book is only five years old, this topic has become considerably more mainstream in those few years. I personally did not find this book to be worth the money, as most of this information is now easily available with a quick internet search. The book was written as a health aid for the general layperson and is very readable, both good qualities of the book. In fact, my wife is a pharmacist interested in the subject of compounding therapy for low “T” treatment, and she read this book in under an hour. The downside is that the book did not really contain any information that I considered to be new or unique, so it really was not worth the purchase (for me).

I found this book to be very informative regarding the use of testosterone therapy. The biggest thing I took away from this book is that T-therapy is safe if you're using it to bring your T level UP to what would be considered normal, not using it to add TO your already safe and normal level (like body builders and/or other athletes).Also, it's written in layman's terms so I could understand it.I was actually purchasing another book and saw this as something else I'd be interested in.

This book explains the issues about testosterone deficiency and supplementation in an understandable way for the non-medical people. It is thorough and an easy read; also, it's not a long book (around 200 pages) which is a plus for me. I would have preferred footnotes in the text of the book, but there are plenty of references and documentation at the end of the book.

One would hope that this information is correct. Amazing that the profession has relied upon incomplete and perhaps incorrect information for so many, many years. I have often wondered why men do not have their hormones tested and balanced from age 40 onward - I do not mean just adding testosterone, but actually BALANCING your hormones.

I am usually skeptical of how-to-do-it books. They usually overpromise and under-deliver. But I heard an interview of this author on Minnesota Public Radio and he reported that large studies have shown that the sharpest indicator of a premature death is not smoking, not high blood pressure, not obesity, not high alcohol consumption. Rather it is being physical unfit. That hooked me. I bought the book, and then the book really pulled me in.What I liked about the book:1. It explains why physical fitness is so tightly correlated with overall health and longevity.2. Even better, he convinced me of his thesis that it takes only moderate exercise to have a big positive impact. On page 2 he explains that study showing that a brisk 30-minute walk, five days a week will extend one's life on average 4.2 years. That got my attention.3. The author is a physician who has run umpteen marathons, and he goes into detail explaining the physiology of why exercise, especially moderate strength training, produces a myriad of health benefits.It can reduce my tryglycerides and increase my HDL levels.4. the book provides a 10-second test to enable anyone between age 51 and 80 to learn if they rank in the upper 25% of fitness for their age group. (I barely qualified.)5. The book explains 3 or 4 exercises that are targeted for various purposes. For instance for back pain pp. 114 - 117 the author gives clear exercises to deal with the root causes.6. There are surprising findings in this book such as why situps and crunches are bad for you, and what exercise to use as a replacement. It is called a "plank."7. After explaining dozens of different exercises for different purposes, the book presents a routine to get started. This is the best part. The first month is so easy, it is almost irresistible. That hooked me, and I finished month one.8. Starting in month two you tailor your routine to your own needs and interests. I am starting that. The exercise level is so moderate that I don't dread "doing my exercises."9. On page 207 the book presents a simple five-minute test to assess your fitness level. It is the kind of thing you can check each month to assess your progress.This book is not for everyone. I am 76 with a family history of heart disease, and I am interested in quality of life and increased longevity, and these exercises seem like an excellent investment. But they are very moderate in intensity and so will not appeal to younger people and really athletic people or marathon runners or people like that. I bought two extra copies and am giving one to my primary care physician and one to a physical therapist and prescribed certain exercises for my lower back pain.It is a welcoming, accessible book filled with illustrations and examples and specific facts from case studies. This is a little difficult to explain, but when I think of an exercise book that promotes general health, I sort of glaze over. It sounds very unappealing. It sounds like it will offer generalities which we all know and it will then suggest a program that is far to intense. But this book is the opposite, and that is why it is so useful. The specific benefits of an exercise are described with clarity and appeal, and the exertion level of the exercises is so moderate that it is easy to keep to the program.I am trying to think of what I didn't like about the book. Perhaps the illustrations of the exercises could have a little more detail. Exactly how should the body look at each stage of that particular exercise.If you are 51 to 80, but the book for yourself. If you are the child of an aging parent, buy it for them. If you have a physician that you appreciate and want to do something for, buy the book for the doctor.

I purchased this book "The Exercise Cure: A Doctor's All-Natural, No-Pill Prescription for Better Health and Longer Life" recently due to the arthritis pain in my hips. I purchased it through the Amazon Marketplace and received the book in a timely manner and in excellent condition. I was pleasantly surprised at the reasonable price for this book. I would definitely recommend the seller "Kali's Quirks" to anyone considering buying this book or any others. So far, I have only tried the stretching exercises and not the strength training exercises, but I believe this book will be very helpful to me. I skimmed through the other sections of the book and if I encounter other health issues in the future, I will be sure to turn to this book as a resource.

As a physician specializing in renal disease but interested in primary prevention I could not agree more with the general thrust of this book. Would also add that other health benefits of physical activity may be important & influence some to engage in it. There are data now that physical activity may slow the decline in kidney function as we age and in those who already have impaired renal function. It may also decrease the risk of kidney stones. While no magic panacea this could have important public health benefits! Besides, it makes you feel better!

Dr. Metzl has incorporated many new ideas and gives excellent instructions for numerous exercises that can help relieve and possibly even cure some physical and mental conditions. He covers every form of exercise. He touches on diet .He.sets up different levels of exercise and explains the one thing we can all do to live longer.Bob H.

Simple, effective program progression. Ex categorized by disease/issues as well as by levels. Bronze 1st month = basically get off the couch -> progressing to-> Gold month 3 having serious cardio & resistive tracks. All workouts include foam rolling ex. Good info throughout on how ex affects the body- gross changes down to cellular level. His classic one liner: "Even if you do something as simple as adding pushups, planks and lunges to your daily activity, you'll see a huge difference..." Amen to that.

I own all of Dr Metzl's books and this one is a great book as well. Being an avid exerciser myself, I don't need convincing that exercise is essential for healthy living. However, I enjoyed reading about all the ways exercise benefits us. I'm also secretly hoping other people in my family who don't exercise much pick the book up and become inspired. :)

An excellent series of illustrated exercise directions. I got it for the exercises for my hip. I also had to order a foam roller in order to do those exercises. I won't use a large portion of the book devoted to other parts of the body or conditions, but I like it for what I needed.

I bought this book for myself and for my mother. It is full of terrific information that is both reassuring and inspiring. My mom is not an active person and I'm hoping it will motivate her to get more active and healthy and I am an avid exerciser/athlete who is recovering from a complicated hip surgery. It has great information on how to exercise and what EXACTLY to do to get pain relief and regain strength in very specific areas.
