Where will we get individuals to take up the cudgels for the “forgotten man?” Read this and learn.

Excellent book. Great from both the theoretical and practical perspectives.A lot of interesting history of the law as well, with some fascinating insight into the English history and customs that I must have missed during law school. The author had an obvious love for his craft that shines through in his writing.Overall, one of the better motivational books for trial lawyers that I have read.

This is a great book for a new lawyer or an older lawyer. It really gets you up for the practice of law

it was fine

Some of the best books are old books and this old book is one of the best. Lloyd Paul Stryker, who wrote "The Art of Advocacy" must have been a legal tiger. Brendan Gill in "Here at the New Yorker" described him as a fee-fie-fo-fum lawyer. Alexander Wolcott, in a 1939 profile of Stryker in "The New Yorker," called him a dragon slayer. In the same article Wolcott told a story of a woman seeking a lawyer to pursue a claim against a giant bank for a breach of their fiduciary responsibility. Was there any lawyer in New York City who'd take the case against the bank, she asked her adviser? "Yes, there's one," he said, "Lloyd Paul Stryker, a sole practitioner. If you can get him interested, he'll take your case. You see he likes fights, relishes combat and dislikes bankers instinctively." Here are some selections of advice from the book. "Good will is infectious; you can neither have nor display too much of it.... One of the greatest attributes an advocate can have is charm.... An advocate's most potent weapons are the kind of words he uses, the way he uses them, and his character.... Character is the best means of persuasion that an advocate possess."
