I decided to read this book as I was advising a CEO client of mine on whose board I sit. He's a young CEO - 41, and has only been a CEO for a short while...less than 2 years. The company owners he succeeded had built a legacy business, providing for many families by building a successful firm. I wanted the new CEO to imagine both the firm and himself a little differently. In addition to being a great place to work, I challenged the exec to consider building the firm's equity position to the place where it would be a compelling M&A target. I asked him to imagine himself as a 56 year old owner...so, 15 years from now. Would he still have the passion for the business? Did he have other ambitions to pursue after achieving business success? He'd make a great U.S. Congressman.When he asked how he might imagine all of that, and then how to prepare for the 15 year older him, I recommended this book, Walk Away Wealthy. While I'm not crazy about the title, as it sounds a little "get rich quick-cheesy," it is an EXCELLENT book in providing a road map on how to move from being a "cash flow" small business owner to an owner who develops the equity in the business, and who is constantly, strategically preparing the business for a sale. IMO, this is what all owners should always be doing, and this author writes clearly and concisely on how to do it.I recommend this book for: current owners; companies who are either considering developing succession plans or who are going through succession now; and for younger managers who who can imagine taking over a company some day. It provides excellent advice for all.Bravo...nice job. Read it.

 If you love the book by John Warrilow's book BUILT TO SELL, you MUST read WALK AWAY WEALTHY. A friend told me about it and it changed the way I work on my business. My big take away was that spending long hours each week in the business actually HURTS the value of the business. Who wants to spend top dollar for a business that takes them 60+ hours a week or needs to hire 2 people to replace you.

A good friend of mine recommended me this book. I was struggling to build my business from scratch. Obviously I needed the help I could get. The author gave me wonderful insights regarding becoming an entrepreneur. You know when I book is made from imaginative facts. This is not the case as the author knew what he was saying. It was backup by well research data. The book is well organized. It didn’t miss anything so in the end you will not be left hanging. Probably the best thing I learn is to never fear. Those who are scared to start a business, this is a highly recommended book. For those who are veteran business people, this book sums it all. After reading this book, I feel that I have a mindset of a successful entrepreneur. Hopefully I can apply what I learned on my start up company.

It gave me everything I think I needed to know. You don’t know what you don’t know. It catered to small businessss which is under $5M in revenue but gave scenarios and good insight on companies with more than that. I got value. The author pitched Certified Financial Planners pretty hard and discusses how they help you create wealth personally not just by selling your business. But it was clearly structured and an easy read.

Was eager to read this and give to friends. It is very high level and has a list of references in the back that you need to research and do to actually execute the plan, so this is not a tool kit as much as a book on the first layers of everything you need to think about. Only downside was the packaging was awful and I had gotten one for myself at the airport but then ordered two more for friends and it was just thrown in a box with one inflatable bag, no protection, so they were scratched and dented.

I was fortunate enough to have Mark present to me and a group of Biz owners - it was supposed to be an hour long, though we took double the time to shoot questions at him. Mark REALLY knows his stuff. Me and several of the others then went and bought the book, which is packed full of info.Basically we work had at our businesses. Though there is SO MUCH to do in order to get money OUT OF IT at the end! That's Mark's specialty. He does so from the "experts" point of view, and he has tons of experience. I know his info has increased what I will sell my firm for!!!

I liked Dr. Cloud & Townsend's other books, but this one didn't live up to my expectations. This is especially disappointing because this is an area where so many people have trouble with enforcing boundaries. I guess I was more looking for "Boundaries in intimate relationships" instead. I'm not religious, but in the other "Boundaries" books it was much easier to go along with the Christianity stuff. There are often important lessons that are exemplified in the Bible, which I can appreciate. However, this book focuses way too much on the "when to have sex" boundary, so basically after you're married (fine for others, but not how I live my life).The whole time I was reading this book I was thinking ... okay, enough about preserving your 'purity', can we talk about when someone you're dating crosses a different boundary? Like stealing passwords and spying on you without your knowledge? Disrespecting you in front of others? Trying to stir up drama with your friends and family? Literally anything boundary-defying that happens after you find yourself in a relationship with someone?

I read this book because I was looking for material to use in conjunction with high school sex education material in a home school situation, so this review will focus on the benefits it has for discussion between parents and teens who are not yet or just beginning to be interested in dating.The book was written partially as a response to I Kissed Dating Goodbye, and the accompanying message preached in some Christian circles that dating is destructive, selfish, and inherently painful. The authors disagree, and think dating, when done by healthy people working toward maturity, can facilitate important developmental processes that prepare you to be a good spouse, whether or not you marry the person you date. I think it would make for interesting discussions to read the two books side by side.The authors are both psychologists with lots of counseling experience, so the advice they give is grounded in Christian psychology more than in Bible study or personal experience, which makes it different from what you find in some other books that are more pastoral in focus. They frequently back up what they say with Scripture passages and principles that support the concepts, but the many of the concepts themselves (transference, co-dependence, parental bonding issues, etc.) are drawn from the field of psychology and counseling.This book is not geared toward high school students. A premise of the book is that dating is for adults. People who have not reached a certain level of maturity, who have not clearly identified their goals and values, have not taken ownership of their spiritual life and decisions, who do not know who they are and what they want in life will not likely have healthy relationships, and will wreak havoc on themselves and others. So, the primary audience of the book is single, independent adults. But the authors acknowledge that age and maturity do not necessarily go hand in hand, and mature teens are perfectly capable of dating responsibly and productively. However young people living at home with their parents are not the primary audience. Much of the book presumes you have a dating past to analyze or a current serious relationship to work on, but the many of the discussions could still be valuable for teens who are not dating yet, because they present lots of examples of what healthy and unhealthy ways of relating look like. There is also good advice about how to start a relationship off well, how to set and maintain healthy personal boundaries, and how to guard against destructive patterns in relationships.Here are some of the things I found particularly worthwhile:There is a valuable distinction made between the difference between giving and serving in a loving relationship and how it differs from being “adaptive” (losing your own sense of self to be what another person wants you to be) or overly compliant in an unhealthy way, and how giving and serving differs from trying to rescue someone who really needs to get their own issues dealt with before they can do their fair share of the relationship work.There is a lot of discussion of what it means to be honest in a relationship, and lots of scenarios that show what it looks like when someone is not being honest with themselves, or about themselves, what it looks like when someone else is not giving you space to be honest with them, and how much space you should give someone to learn and grow in their ability to be more honest.There is a good section on what leading someone on looks like and how deceptive and very destructive it is.It discusses unhealthy patterns of relating and how to recognize when you are: being controlled, being controlling, trying to rescue someone, trying to parent someone, trying to compensate for your own character weakness or deficiency by unhealthy dependence on someone, romanticizing opposite gender friendships, committing prematurely, being “kidnapped” by a relationship to the detriment of other friendships, harboring false hope for change, blaming, and disrespecting or being disrespected.There is also a list of deal breakers that no one should put up with in a relationship. Interestingly enough, top on the list is deception or lying. Some of the things should be no-brainers (addiction, violence, faithlessness), but it also includes refusal to respect boundaries, and what that looks like.There is good information on how recognizing patterns in the kind of people you attract or are attracted to can help you identify areas of immaturity, brokenness, or unresolved hurt in your life that you need to address.There is a valuable discussion of what to do if you notice a big split between the people you are attracted to romantically and the people you would choose as friends, since this is usually an indication that you need to deal with some hurt or unresolved issue in your own soul. Healthy people develop romantic feelings for people that make good friends too.One of the strengths of this book is the numerous “case studies” of actual relationships it presents so you can see how the abstract issues look when fleshed out with real situations and people.I also appreciate that the tone of the book is not like some I have read where you are basically encouraged to find someone “compatible” with no problems or issues, as if people are not works in progress. This book encourages and equips people to work through issues in relationships, and use dating experiences to spur personal character development and movement toward more wholeness and maturity. It gives lots of practical suggestions for how to try to work through a number of common problems before bailing on the relationship.It presents a multi-faceted rationale for abstinence before marriage without descending into unnecessary scare tactics or preachiness. It presents “purity” as something positive (available to all, not just virgins) that protects and safeguards a person in dating, not this oppressive thing that must be protected and that is in constant danger of being lost or defiled.What it does not do:It presumes you accept the idea that Christians should date Christians. It might be beneficial to spend more time with a teen building a case for why.The discussion of sexual boundaries basically says you need them, but leaves all the working out of the details up to the individual. My feeling is that teens could benefit from a much more detailed discussion with some practical guidelines and suggestions, as well as encouragement to define exactly what those boundaries are going to be for the present and how they might change as they are older and/or closer to marriage.The book does not really give any formulas or guidelines for “how to date,” or how Christian dating might look different from what the rest of the world does or expects. It assumes you will basically follow the accepted cultural model of picking out someone you are potentially romantically interested in and intentionally spending time alone with them to get to have fun and get to know them better. This book is not an introduction to the world of dating for people with limited social skills, it presumes you know what you are doing.The attitude toward dating is a bit more cavalier than I am totally comfortable with, especially for a teen or college student. I personally gravitate more toward the idea that you should not get involved romantically with someone until you have a solid friendship and you think you might realistically have a future together even if it is a ways off. The authors take more of a view that you can’t possibly know where something might lead and romantic involvement is often the way you solidify your friendship and learn enough about yourself and another person to see if there is a future. As long as you have healthy boundaries, it’s all good.They vacillate between using the word “date” to refer to anyone you are casually spending time getting to know and someone you have an exclusive and serious romantic relationship with, which was confusing sometimes. It would have been helpful to have two terms.The book operates from the position that the goal of dating is to get experience that helps you grow and mature and develop interpersonal skills that will prepare you to marry someday, not that the goal of dating is to find someone to marry. For some people this will be an important philosophical difference, but one that would be worth exploring with a teen.In this book, the idea of any parental involvement is absent. It presumes that a peer group of friends will be the main support and accountability network in a person’s life. The authors also believe that “leaving home” and establishing a life independent of one’s family (though they acknowledge this can happen at college) is an important prerequisite for any healthy serious relationship. Families that gravitate more toward the courtship model may find it hard to incorporate advice based on those assumptions, but it still brings up many things worth discussing and considering. Such parents may discover they are preventing their children from setting healthy boundaries at home, something that may negatively impact their attempts to set healthy boundaries with a future partner.

This book was recommended to me by a woman in my bible study following a breakup with a guy I believed to be a strong Christian and who had my heart in his hands for good reason. I found out the hard way, he was neither. This book has been a eye opener and confirmation all at the same time!

I loved this book! It was very enlightening and needed right now in my life. I just got out of a relationship where it was clear to me that i wasn't setting proper boundaries, as I seemed to have lost complete control of most of the decision making. This book has great insights and is a reliable standard for what a healthy relationship is. It definitely has a Christian aspect to it, but if that bothers you, it's easy to look past and still get solid council. As a Christian, however, I really enjoyed that element!

After reading Dr. Henry Cloud’s other book “Safe People”, I decided to give this a try. I love how specific and direct he is so I enjoyed most of the book. My only criticism is that it’s not the best for singles. I get this book is about dating, but I read it while single in the hopes that it would put dating in perspective and help me navigate that in the future. The author multiple times discussed singleness like it was the symptom of a spiritual issue and that it could be “fixed”. While this can SOMETIMES be the case, the pain of singleness is often a natural one that stems from a righteous desire for marriage.Long story short: great practical help in dating, tread carefully if single. It’ll help prepare you for a future relationship but it won’t minister to any emotions you may currently be feeling in singleness.

After a 31 year marriage, teaching couples in our church about dating and how to treat a woman (or a man), I learned more information from this book than I thought. If you are 15 or 85, you need to make this book a part of your library for your teen or yourself. I learned not to fear to set boundaries in my dating now than I did before. Looking back at how I dated in high school to now, 180' difference.

This is the 3rd book by these authors I have read. Every single book has been helpful and inspiring on my journey to learn how to have a healthy loving relationship, with myself, my child, and a partner. The guidance presented is what I have innately always wanted to emulate in my life but was never taught, nor have I seen demonstrated. My soul has always wanted to break the pattern of dysfunction that I witnessed and learned in my family. These books are truly a road map to making that become a reality! Now I must humble myself, trust, experience my vulnerability of expressing my feelings to my partner, and implement boundaries needed for the loving, healthy, communicative relationship I have always wanted! I am so grateful for the body of work these authors have shared with me! 🙏😊💗

I have long admired Don Campbell's work, and this book is no exception. More of a survey than an in-depth treatise, it is actually quite useful just because of that. The main problem I have is that in the attempt to stay "up-to-date" by including links to websites instead of putting fuller information into footnotes or reference notes, the publishers have failed rather badly: most of the links don't connect with anything now, only 4 years after the publication date. Actual printed-in-the-book information, with names and titles and the like, would have been, in the long run, far more useful, for far longer. Or, since the book has its own website, why couldn't the publishers have arranged to have the sound and video clips all on their own site so they stay available?

This was a wrath of knowledge and I loved every minute i spent reading this book as someone who is pursuing education in the healing arts! Highly recommend!

This is a well-written, in-depth discussion of the applications of music and sound. It is very well researched and provides extensive sources and external links. If you're interested in how you can use sound to change your own life or the life of those around you, or if you're just interested on an intellectual level, then this book is for you.I'm rating 4 instead of 5 stars because there were a few areas in which I feel issues were over-simplified and could have been dealt with better. Overall very good though.

A friend recommended this book to me because of my interest in sound and depression. It's a great read and an even greater resource for me. This book presents for a layperson like me an enlightening understanding of the great impact noise, commotion or sound- whatever one wants to call it on our daily lives.

I haven't finished reading this book yet but am so enjoying it that I wanted to put some initial impressions down on paper. I'll re-review after I have completely finished reading it the first time, I can see that I will probably be referring back to this book for quite some time to come. I ended up buying the hardbound edition, and the Kindle edition."I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy, but most importantly music, for in the patterns of music and all the arts are the keys of learning ." - Plato. In Healing At The Speed Of Sound this quote begins Chapter 4, which focuses on sound and music in education. This chapter alone is enough to make me wish this book was required reading for every person that has any involvement in educating our children, whether it is parents, teachers, administrators, elected officials; at a time when the arts and are in jeopardy in so many schools, if they haven't already been eliminated. We are wasting so much potential right now, in a nation where too many seem to shrug off the failure of so many to even complete high school. There are non academic tools that can help these kids, and one of those that has the greatest potential to help so many kids is music.I have not been reading this wonderful book in linear fashion, rather I began by skipping around, investigating some of the rich resources provided throughout. Last night I did go back to the beginning and then put on some beautiful, soothing music to go to sleep. I already knew how important this can be, but needed a reminder. I took some time this morning to just wake up and consciously allow some relative silence, as I enjoyed the happy snuffles of my dogs greeting me. It certainly put me in a great frame of mind to begin my day. The authors offer a tantalizing glimpse of how just a few changes in my daily routine can make an enormous change in my energy and attitude. They provide so many potential music resources too: I can see that I will be referring back to the book again and again as I build a better daily sound and music routine for myself. It delights me to think of how much fun I can have building my personal soundscapes too. The possibilities are limitless!Each chapter is like unwrapping a present, as I not only read, but investigate the links. I downloaded the Kindle software for my laptop, and have it synced with my Kindle. I can directly access the links in each chapter as I am reading on the laptop, which really enriches the experience of reading it so much more! If I had the enhanced e-book version I could use that, and could access the links directly from my iPad or Nook or one of the new Kindles coming perhaps, but for now am really enjoying this experience!

This is a wonderful book full of recommendations... It is geared towards an upper middle class with lots of technology and time to play with it. Though I enjoyed reading through the specific ideas about planning a "musical" day, I think it could have been written for a broader audience, and the important points made for efficiently.

Really, guys, these questions in no way serve to review a book on one of the greatest Romantic poets of England. Plot? Pace? Characters???? This isn't popular fiction!!

As I said of the Wordsworth, Coleridge and Byron volumes, this entire series, sadly not fully available, is an excellent introduction or, as in my case, re-introduction to the background and development of Keats. I particularly enjoyed the visuals as adding to the sense of time and place. Also, the description of Keats' relationship to other artists of the period (and historical events) added further depth to what might be called informative light reading.
